6 Steps On How To Relieve Insomnia

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance
There is few things in life more frustrating than having to lie there in bed, staring at the ceiling and being unable to fall asleep. Night after night you try to get some rest, but you just can't seem to get and stay asleep. You know you have to sleep, but for some reason it doesn't happen. There are some steps on how to relieve insomnia that might be able to help you get your much needed rest. Eventually, you might have to go see a specialist to help you, but if one of these steps works, then that expensive trip might be avoided.

1) Eat consistently throughout the day and be careful what you ingest. A sharp decline or spike in your blood sugar level can disrupt any sleep patterns you might fall into. Try avoiding caffeine the last half of the day. Avoid alcohol in the evening. Yes, alcohol might relax you and help you get to sleep, but the quality of the sleep isn't that good and you stay in a light sleep and are easily wakened. Tobacco can also have a negative effect on your ability to go into a deep sleep.

2) Light exercise in the evening. After a sensible dinner, take a nice evening stroll. This will help you work out tension you might be feeling and helps your body relax. Try to avoid doing anything strenuous as this might cause your body to get overstimulated.

3) Allow yourself a chance to wind down in the evening. Stay away from work, the news, or anything that might get your mind active. You have to get yourself to a point where your mind and body are moving towards a relaxed state. Take a nice warm bath and then sit back and relax sipping a nice warm chamomile tea or glass of milk with honey.

4) Set a regular bedtime. If you can put yourself on a routine, your body will respond favorably. Your body loves to be on a consistent schedule. Just make sure that you are able to keep that schedule going over the weekend.

5) Make and keep your bedroom a sleeping chamber. Try to keep everything out of there that might get you stimulated. Try to make it as dark as possible. Take your TV and computer out of the room so you aren't tempted to use them. Keep your work out of the bedroom as well. You have to associate it with just sleep.

6) Empty your brain. There are many ways to do this. The first thing to remember is not to remember anything. Don't think about the day you just had and don't think about what has to be done tomorrow. Read a boring book, do a boring crossword or sudoku puzzle, or count backwards from 100.

It may take a lot of planning and changing of behavior to get to the point where you can do these things on a regular basis, but no matter how much you don't want to do some of these things, life can't continue for long with your not getting the sleep you need. Whatever you have been doing so far obviously isn't working. Try to do something to change your routine following these steps on how to relieve insomnia and you might just find yourself getting that every elusive full nights sleep.

Search Amazon.com for Weight Loss assistance
A lot of people these days are considering having gastric bypass surgery and are wondering about any complication gastric bypass surgery may cause. The bad news is that there aren’t a lot of resources available for people. Some of the resources that are available are often written in medical language and hard understand. This is why there is a huge demand for this type of information to be written in easy to understand language that the everyday person, the type of people are most likely considering the surgery, can read. This is why we have put together the following guide to help you better understand some of the risks and complications gastric bypass surgery may result in.

It is important to remember that there are a lot of different forms of this surgery; this is why there can’t be one comprehensive guide for all of these different forms of the surgery. Due to this reason, the following guide is just a general list of risks and complications gastric bypass surgery can result in. It is important to remember that this guide should not replace professional help; you should always consult your doctor or medical health professional before considering any types of surgery or taking any medications. Secondly, you should note that everyone’s body will react differently to the surgery and healing times as well as any complications might be specific to the person.

In the most extreme conditions complications gastric bypass surgery causes can lead to death. It’s important to remember that this is really rare and only occurs in about one per 200 to 300 surgeries. The risk factor of a result as serious as this will all depend on many different things including your age, weight, and overall medical health condition.

Perhaps one of the most common complications from this surgery, although it is still extremely rare, is blood clots in the legs. These are more likely to appear in extremely overweight people that are classified as morbidly obese. There are many risks factors that are commonly associated with blood clots. If you are concerned about the likelihood of these complications gastric bypass surgery can potentially cause such as blood clots, you should always consult your doctor or medical health professional in order to get their medical opinion. In some cases your doctor may refer you to someone that specializes in gastric bypass recovery.

Another set of complications gastric bypass surgery is known to cause is leaking at one of the staples on the stomach. For the most part this complication can be treated with antibiotics and most people will make a full recovery quite easily. However there are some rare cases where this condition might need emergency surgery in order to correct it. This is perhaps one of the most rare complications in recent years as the risks of this type of surgery steadily decrease. If you have any questions about this medical procedure or complications caused by gastric bypass surgery, the best thing you can do is consult your medical healthcare professional or doctor to get their medical opinion.

Great Breakfast Choices that Keep You Healthy

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance
You notice that keeping your weight off gets harder and harder throughout the years. As a result, you start to skip meals, but this is probably the biggest mistake many people commit. Rather than eating three big meals, spread these out and eat smaller portions. Satisfy your body without overstuffing yourself. Feeling too full is also uncomfortable. It’s time to feel just right so you can look good no matter what age. Most importantly, never ever skip the most important meal of the day: breakfast.

Now, you ask: could eating a supersized morning meal help you slim down? Many people go by the very belief that feasting on a mega breakfast helps you lose weight. There’s truth to this. Several studies have actually proven that people who took in more than 600 calories at breakfast lost more average pounds than those who ate moderate morning meals. A sample superb breakfast includes skim milk, whole wheat bread, turkey, mozzarella cheese, and yes, even dark chocolate. The slimming secret is in the makeup of the meal. Protein keeps blood sugar levels steady and staves off hunger, whereas eating carbs may protect you from afternoon cravings. By front-loading satisfying fat, protein, and carbs, you’ll make it easier to stick to your diet throughout the day.

Here is also a list of fruits you can stock your pantry with so that the nutrients they contain keep you feeling energized even when you have a tiring day ahead of you:

1.    Papaya: cut through its thick skin to get the juicy insides. This is a great source of skin-saving vitamin A and papain, an enzyme that aids in digestion. You can use this to sweeten your spicy tomato salsa. If it has yet to ripe, shred and toss with a sesame-soy dressing for a great Asian slaw.

2.    Prickly pear: the name may sound a bit too sharp for you, but this is actually mild and tasty. Once cup has nearly 10 percent of your daily calcium needs. Strengthen your bones and add this to your cereal.

3.    Guava: this fruit has a slightly spicy flavor, almost (but not quite) like cinnamon. This yellow or bright red beauty gives you as many antioxidants as broccoli does. Simply peel and eat it fresh or puree the pulp to make a great citrus juice. You can also add this to the sauce that marinates your chicken.

Furthermore, if you exercise three or four times a week for 30 to 45 minutes, your daily meals should provide enough nutrition to refuel your muscles. If you feel hungry post-gym, choose low-calorie munchies. Eat carbs if you plan to stretch yourself out a bit more because your body uses these to restore muscle glycogen, which gives you energy. Paring this with proteins may also help speed up the process.

Now is the time to make a change. Never underestimate the importance of breakfast in your quest to staying fit for life. If there’s one meal you should never skip, this one is definitely it.

How To Relieve Leg Cramps At Night

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance
Are you struggling to find how to relive leg cramps at night? As you get older, you are more prone to being awoken in the middle of the night with bad leg cramps. This can last for a few seconds or up to quite a few minutes, but the soreness can end up lasting for quite a while and an otherwise very restful slumber can be interrupted. Dealing with these leg cramps that come in the middle of the night can be incredibly frustrating, but there are things you can do to help them from happening and make the episodes less severe when you do have them.

Staying hydrated is the first thing you are going to want to do. If you can drink at least eight glasses of water daily you will find that the cramping episodes will decrease in number. Dehydration plays a role in many cases of cramping.

Taking calcium supplements will also help. Many reasons for experiencing leg cramps can also be the result of a calcium deficiency. Drinking milk in the evening might help, but more than likely you are going to need to take a calcium supplement anyway, especially if you are female and in danger of getting osteoporosis.

Be sure to check prescriptions you might be taking because some of them may have a side-effect that brings about cramping or will have an adverse effect on the level of calcium, magnesium, or potassium in your body which may all cause a problem with cramping. They may also help bring about dehydration quicker. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor if you have questions.

Stretching your calves often during the day and evening will also help keep your leg from cramping. You can stand facing the wall about an arm's-length from it and place your hands on the wall directly in front of you. Keep your heels firmly planted on the ground and then move your upper body close to the wall like you are doing a push-up in the standing position. You should be getting a little stretch on your hamstrings. Hold this position for thirty seconds and then stand on your toes holding it for another thirty seconds. After you have done this, push yourself back away from the wall to the starting position with your heels back on the ground. Do this three or four times to help you keep your legs from cramping. Also, consider riding a stationary bicycle to help keep your leg from supple.

If you do have a cramp at night, put your finger on your upper lip and apply pressure. This will many times help stop a cramp. You can also try to make sure that your covers are not tight around your feet and lie on your back and bring your toes towards your head.

For persistent troubles with leg cramps at night, you should go see your doctor to make sure there isn't something more serious wrong. Your doctor might be able to present you with some other options how to relieve leg cramps that could work.

Shore up your willpower with several motivation boosters of your very own. After all, staying fit should be every person person’s goal as they age. But then, it’s easy to blow off a workout with a simple excuse. Right now, you should come up with ways that work on your need to exercise so that you will never blow off a sweat session ever again. First of all, it helps to buddy up with someone who lifts your spirits so that you go farther, faster.

It’s time to join energizing friends. Working out with someone else or with a group of people reinforces your commitment, but socializing with people you don’t click with can actually drain your drive. Enlist a pal with similar get-fit goals and start scheduling your workout times together. You’ll see that it gets easier to drive to the gym when you know you’ll see some great friends there. You may exercise together, or you can opt to do things on your own. It also helps to start a tradition. Coffee after workouts will help you look forward to getting out of the house.

Start getting enough sleep and rest. Count sheep at night instead of staying up late to watch all your favorite shows. Activities that involve discipline, like gearing up to hit the gym, require a considerable amount of energy. The way your body converts blood sugar into energy is less efficient when you’re exhausted. Snooze and you can actually lose unwanted pounds slowly and permanently. So, when you feel your eyes dropping, don’t hesitate to head to bed. Catch up on your favorite shows some other time; perhaps earlier during the day.

Rehearse your resolve to caring for your body. If you’ve been having trouble rallying to your regular run, dedicate yourself to becoming disciplined in another area such as cleaning house regularly. Self-control functions like a muscle you can strengthen with time and practice. Using it in one domain over time helps you build it up to carry into unrelated activities.

Your desire to just give up can run rampant when you’re trying to stay fit. Eliminate inside debate by working your activities to fit your schedule and energy levels. The more often you do something, the more automatic the choice becomes. A good example would be to opt for a pre-work swim rather than binging on unhealthy breakfast choices. If you’re not a morning person, schedule these activities at a time you’re less likely to skip.

It’s time to set a big-picture goal for yourself and totally transform your body so that you become a better you as you grow older. Rather than obsessing over those five pounds or trying to fit into your old pair of pants, focus on being healthy and reducing your long-term disease risk. When you realize that you’re making a choice to exercise because you want to be fit for life, you’re naturally driven to a larger and more positive outcome. Try it and see how things can change and improve for you.

Regaining Your Youth Through Sleep

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance
No, you’re not dreaming. It really is possible to get moisturized skin, glossy hair, and fresh look while you snooze. People underestimate the importance of getting enough Zzz’s as they get too caught up with life. Well, take some time off and feel better with enough downtime.

Sleep gives you a chance to med stressed-out skin. Sleep time is optimum for cellular repair because there are more hours for products to sink in and fewer environmental stressors to prevent absorption. If you have dry to normal skin, after cleansing, apply a dime-sized blob of petroleum jelly to slightly damp skin. Rub in it until it becomes less greasy. This should happen in less than 30 seconds. The petrolatum creates a seal, so moisture penetrates and plumps skin rather than evaporates. If you’re worried about making your oily skin worse, opt for a serum that’s non-comedogenic to keep from clogging pores. It’s better that you get a product that comes with skin strengthening peptides as well.

To deflate your puffy, tired eyes, there’s also something you can do. To awaken looking rested, treat eyes before you hit between the sheets with a generous dose of caffeine-packed eye cream. There are tons of products to choose from, so you won’t have a problem buying one for yourself. Because the cream isn’t topped by eye makeup, it can easily seep into the skin to tighten and reduce bloating. Next, elevate your head with a couple of pillows before you fall asleep to prevent fluids from building up under the eyes.

If you’re puffiness is caused by allergies as opposed to lack of sleep, consult your doctor about taking an antihistamine because this could help drain the excess fluids that build up on your face. If you still have bags in the morning, do a facial massage around the eyes to stimulate blood flow and take down any swelling. In fact, you can exercise your entire face and stretch the muscles so that your skin looks firmer and suppler. These wonderful workout routines are available on the net, and all you need to do is download the instructions.

As for your hair, you can change drab into dazzling. Use your downtime to get less frizzy hair with an ultra-conditioning mask. Look for products that say ‘overnight’ on the label. They are less messy than the ones that you put in the shower. Apply this to hair that’s been towel dried it will slide off if your strands are still wet. Then, help the mask penetrate your roots by covering it with a shower cap. The heat from your scalp will encourage oils to absorb into hair and it can be likened to getting a salon treatment for eight hours in a row. When you wake up, skip the shampoo and conditioner and simply rinse. This is taking the phrase ‘rise and shine’ to a whole new plane.

Try these little tricks and feel better about yourself in no time at all. After all, to look good, you need to work at it. But what you’ll get from it will surely make it worth the effort.

Retin A Acne Scars Does It Help

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance
Retin A has been used for years for a wide range of skin conditions, though it is most commonly known for helping eliminate acne scars.  It has been shown to help correct not only skin texture problems but skin discoloration as well.  If you want to know about Retin A  acne scars this article can educate you on what the process entails as well as let you know what results you can reasonably expect.

This topical cream comes in a generic form called tretinoin.  Retin A comes from Retinol which is a form of Vitamin A.  Retin A enhances the already significant benefits of vitamin A by encouraging the function of the molecules that make up the skin cells.  This process will help increase the rate at which the skin cells replenish themselves, thus helping skin clear up more quickly. With the growth of new skins cells there is also more collagen and elastin which are two of the most important elements of healthy skin, this helps improve the overall health of the skin cells.  Retin A can also help by keeping the buildup of toxins such as bacteria, oil and dirt to a minimum which can help prevent further breakouts and many aging issues.  Retin A helps fight of the enzymes that are responsible for aging skin such as those that contribute to wrinkles and less elasticity and sagging.

Retin A helps eliminate acne scars in two ways: it addresses the skin discoloration whether the skin has turned darker (hyper pigmentation) or lighter (hypo pigmentation) and it helps even out the surface of the skin by eliminating, or decreasing, the irregularities such as sunken, dimpled, or raised skin.  By targeting the two components of acne scarring Retin A helps return skin to a more normal, smooth appearance. Your skin will look closer to the way it did prior to your acne outbreaks.

Retin A must only be used under doctor supervision. While this treatment has been shown to be very effective with many skin problems, not just acne scars, it can also interact badly with other skin care products and will create an extreme sensitivity to sunlight when in use. You must stay out of the sun when you are using Retin A to eliminate the risk of further damage to your already compromised skin.

Retin a acne scars is an effective method for reversing the damaging effects on your skin from severe acne outbreaks.  It can help alleviate the uneven texture as well as correct skin discoloration. Retin A can also help prevent future breakouts by keeping your skin clear of toxins which can clog pores and lead to breakouts.  Just keep the warnings in mind, especially the extreme sun sensitivity, so that you don't cause further damage to your skin.  Your dermatologist can provide you with further treatment options as well as a prescription for Retin A if that is appropriate.  Just remember, that you can have clear, attractive skin again, don't give up.

The Medias Idea on Health

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance
It seems as if the fight to stay slim gets harder when you get older. This, however, comes as no surprise. After all, your metabolism is slowing down and you’re battling with different health issues along the way. But does that mean that you take everything sitting down? Are you suppose to accept the fact that you can’t be as fit as you were when you were in your teens and early twenties? If that’s how you view things, you may as well throw in the trowel and give up with you battle to stay slim, healthy, and beautiful.

Well, you’re definitely not helping when you constantly go on a crash diet. Sadly, the media has been exploiting the vulnerability of older women. First and foremost, being somewhat on the heavy side doesn’t automatically mean that you lead an unhealthy life. If you’re happy with your body, then kudos to you. Right now, you need to worry more on how the scale tips. You need to see what’s inside and make sure that while you may not be ideally thin, you can still consider yourself to be a very healthy person. If you took a look at some cultures, curvy women are thought to be more attractive. Weight was a sign of fertility and strength, and while men flocked to these women like flies, westerners have a totally different belief system altogether.

The industry, particularly fashion, insists that being thin is the only way a woman is considered to be happy and beautiful. Ironically, this is in a society where obesity is one of the most common problems. These women are faced with discrimination and ridicule on an almost daily basis, and they immediately assume that just because they’re not of a certain size, they’re immediately unhealthy. While being overweight puts you more at risk of several diseases, you also have to consider bone structure and heredity before you jump to conclusions.

To feel truly beautiful, you need to work on the inside first. Eat right, exercise regularly, and know that even as you age, you are still a woman of substance. When you really look at it, age is merely numbers, no more, no less. Your true age is in the way you live. Obviously, the more careful you are with your lifestyle, the better you’ll feel. Being fit is only a by-product of living well, and right now, you need to work on giving your body what it needs as you get older. Take a lot of vitamins, and treat yourself to a lot of fruits, vegetables, and protein.

As long as you learn to listen to your body, you will be at your best at any age. Don’t try to focus on what the media’s standards are. You need to have your own set of principles and go with what your body tells you is right. Therefore, this is a call to women all over to support and encourage each other. One who is fit and active will always more beautiful than the woman who’s thin and starving.

Fade Acne Scar

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance
If persistent bad acne outbreaks over the years have left your skin discolored and scarred there are many all natural techniques you can use to fade acne scar.  Of course, there are also a lot of expensive, time consuming and more invasive techniques that can be used also and for some people, especially those with very damaged skin, they may be the only option.  But to start off you'd be better off trying to find the relief you want from the easier and less expensive natural methods.

Many of these methods will cost very little to try and you can do them yourself right from your own home. Add to that the fact that they have a high rate of success and you can understand why I recommend starting with the all natural options first and only moving on to the other more expensive options as a last resort.

Here is a list of some of the most common home remedies you can use that may help you eliminate, or lessen, your acne scars:

1. Lemon juice.  Take a mid sized lemon and cut it in half, squeeze the juice into a bowl and mix the lemon juice with cool water, soak a soft washcloth in the lemon water until it is soaked through, wring out all the excess water so that you are left with a damp washcloth, use the lemon water soaked washcloth as a compress, apply to your trouble spots and leave it on your skin for several minutes.  You can do this process daily.

2.  Make a trip to your local organic store and purchase 100% olive oil and rosehip oil.  Thoroughly clean and dry your skin so that all excess dirt and toxins have been removed.  Gently rub the olive oil over your acne scars several times throughout the day to help regenerate your skin and heal your scars.

Rub the rosehip oil into your skin on your scars twice a day, once in the morning and once at night.  This oil is renowned for it's healing properties and can fade  your scars over a period of time.

Some words of caution: If you have any allergic reaction make sure to see your doctor right away. Don't start this process if you are taking  any type of medications at all, even over the counter ones, without first talking to your doctor. Don't combine these two processes, try one at a time and you have to be willing to give it several weeks before you can really determine if it is an effective treatment for you.

If you want to fade acne scar, you have more options than you might realize. You don't have to spend thousands of dollars and months of your time to get results.  You may be one of the lucky ones who can get relief from simple, inexpensive, natural remedies.  At least you can give these remedies a try, you don't have anything to lose and they might just work great for you.

Chemical Peel and Dermabrasion

Search Amazon.com for Anti-Aging assistance

To look young, cosmetic surgery no longer has to be the only option. Aside from the insanely long downtime, these procedures are just too expensive and riskier than the other options now available for you. You can go to your own dermatologist to find what you could actually do to keep your skin looking fresh, young, and healthy. Of course, diet plays a big role here. To make the procedures even more effective, you also have to take care of yourself better. You can’t go on and live your life irresponsibly. These procedures can only take you so far, and the rest will be up to you.

One route you can take is dermabrasion. This procedure makes use of a wire brush that contains diamond particles. In some beauty centers, this is known as the diamond peel, and like its name suggests, it makes use of diamond particles that somehow sand the top layer of your skin. The whole process takes about an hour to an hour and a half to finish, depending on the damage on the skin and on how much of your body you want to treat. There is some pain involved here, and depending on the intensity, you can be given an anesthetic. After that, your skin is cleansed and dressing is applied. You may notice that your skin will be slightly flushed and swollen in the next few days, but there’s no need to worry here. Thee scabs fall off and you’ll start to see the beautiful skin that comes out of it. You’ll know how flawless skin should look like after a few days’ time.

Another choice for you would be a chemical peel. What happens here is that the doctor removes the outer layer of your skin where all the harsh elements of nature can somehow be found. It doesn’t go further than the superficial layer so you need not worry about nerve destruction and any form of infection here. With this, a liquid chemical solution is slathered on your face. After a while, you may feel a slight tingling sensation in all the affected areas. That’s because the medicine slowly burns off a thin layer leaving what’s left exposed. While the whole thing sounds too harsh, there’s very little pain involved here. In fact, what you’ll feel is but a slight discomfort. With the new skin that is firmer now on the surface, your body stimulates itself to produce more of the younger looking skin. Just take note that your wrinkles won’t be removed here, but you’ll feel younger soon after.

These two procedures may not be as thorough all the other options available, but this is perfect for those who are too scared to go under the knife. Aside from that, you won’t be asked to shell out a lot of cash because these are all relatively cheaper than the others. If you want to look younger and feel better about yourself, you can simply look at these two and see which one you could actually go for.

What You Should Know About Weight Loss Prescription Medication

Search Amazon.com for Weight Loss assistance
If you are having trouble losing weight, it is possible that taking a prescribed weight loss medication may be a good approach. Generally, it is necessary for your current overall health and weight to be within a range that your doctor feels would benefit from the use of some type of weight loss medication. Before you decide to call up your doctor and ask for a weight loss prescription to help you lose weight, here are some things you should know.

Not everyone is a candidate for the use of weight loss medicines. Generally, your doctor will evaluate your current BMI or Body Mass Index before considering the possibility of writing a prescription for weight loss medication. If you have a BMI of 27 or over and have some type of obesity related health issues, there is a good chance your doctor will approve your request. If your current weight level does not appear to have triggered any other health issues thus far, you may have to register a BMI of over 30 before your physician will recommend one of the several prescription medications for weight loss available today.

Depending on your situation, your physician may choose to go with a weight loss medication that works in one of two ways. One option is to make use of a medication that works as an appetite suppressant. Weight loss medicines of this type simply help you to be satisfied with less food. If you are ambulatory and able to engage in some type of exercise and other activities, the appetite suppressant may be all you need to kick start your weight loss program.

The second option with a weight loss prescription is known as a fat absorption inhibitor. If you have other ailments that can be traced back to your weight, this may be the preferred way to go. A fat absorption inhibitor will block the body from absorbing most of the fat from your food. Instead, the fat moves through the system and is expelled as waste. As a result, the fat does not have the chance to store in the body.

Keep in mind there is the chance of side effects with all types of weight loss medications. While many people will experience nothing more than a few mild discomforts, other people will find that use of the prescription for weight loss causes severe problems. Some of the possible side effects include trouble sleeping, nausea, drowsiness and constipation. In more severe situations, persons using a weight loss prescription may become addicted, begin to have anxiety or panic attacks, or experience increases in blood pressure or heart rate. Any side effects should be reported to your doctor immediately.

If your weight problem is severe, your doctor may include some type of prescription medication for losing weight in your overall plan to drop the pounds. Still, an important key to your success has to do with attitude. If you do not take losing weight seriously, none of the weight loss prescription medications on the market today will overcome your lack of commitment and magically return you to a healthy weight range.

Acne Scars Solution

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance
When it comes to finding the appropriate  acne scars solution for your particular situation, you'll be pleased to know that you have a lot of options.  For most people it would make sense starting with the least expensive, least invasive procedure possible and only move up to the more costly treatments if you haven't gotten the results you wanted.

Make sure you allow up to a year to allow your skin to heal itself.  Most scars will either fade or be gone completely in a year and you won't need to worry about any additional treatments. Your body is made to heal itself and your skin is no different you should allow it time to do it's job.  Of course, if your scars are really deep your body probably won't be able to repair that much damage on it's own.

You should also consider waiting until your acne breakouts are controlled.  There isn't much sense, especially with the expensive treatments, to spend a lot of money on treatments to get rid of scarring if you are still suffering from bad acne and will likely just get more scarring. Wait until you're mostly past this phase before you worry about treating your scars.

Here is a list of some of the most common treatments for acne scarring.  I've arranged  them from the easiest and cheapest first down to the more expensive and invasive:

1. Natural cures. This can cover anything from olive oil to urine.  There is a lot of evidence that shows these natural and or herbal remedies can be extremely effective treating acne scars.  The great thing about these treatments is that they are extremely low cost and you  can do it yourself right at home.

2. Doctor prescribed treatments. These will generally consist of a cream that you apply to your skin several times a day. The prescriptions, not to mention the doctors visit, can be fairly expensive.  The creams are harsh and you may experience some irritation. With many of these remedies you will experience a hyper sensitivity to sunlight so you have to be very careful when you go out.

3.  The more expensive solutions, and more invasive, are things like laser treatments, chemical peels, and IPL therapy.  These procedures basically will either remove the top layer of damaged skin and encourage quicker growth of the underlying layers, or will target a beam of light directly through the top layer of skin and work on the undesirable damaged lower layer of skin.  They tend to be quite expensive and results will vary greatly from one patient to the next and depending on the size and depth of your scars. If you want to look into any of these options just make sure you have a thorough understanding of what you can realistically expect as well as how many sessions you'll likely need, and of course, the cost.

Now you have an idea of some of the  acne scars solution available.  All of these solutions have had some success, some more than others, but none of them is successful 100% of the time.  It's important for you to find the solution that will work for you and your unique situation.

Binging On Healthy Treats

Search Amazon.com for Weight Loss assistance
You find that you like to eat a lot in between meals. Rather than crave for all those unhealthy treats, you could go for one that’s healthy for you. So, here is a list of amazing options that you could look into the next time you hear your stomach grumble and complain. This can actually help you when you age because your metabolism won’t be like how it was when you were a teenager. Now, any little binge could actually settle on your hips.

1.    Frozen chocolate milk. The cold temperature of this shake-like mixture may help you burn a few extra calories during digestion, and its protein satiates you. It’s a cinch to make as well. Throw a handful of ice into a blender with half a cup of skim milk and 2 tablespoons of light chocolate syrup.

2.    Pita chips and salsa. Spicy salsa is loaded with capsaicin, a compound found in chili peppers that turbo-charges your metabolism. Eat it with ten pieces of whole wheat pita chips instead of the tortilla counterpart, since they have fewer calories and have more fiber. The snack will set you back only 150 calories.

3.    Oatmeal. When a craving for creamy comfort food hits, pack a package of instant flavored oatmeal into the microwave. Each has about 100 calories of belly-filling oat grains and fiber.

4.    Whole wheat pizza. The pizza parlor kind has a white-flour crust, and research links consumption of white flour products to extra belly fat. But, try out mouth-watering whole wheat pizzas from health stores. You get a healthy pizza with all the goodies that have been freshly cooked. These come prepared without oil too.

5.    Fat-free yogurt. This trendy, tangy, and portable snack is high in protein and low in sugar, and some brands have fewer than 80 calories in a single-serving container. A recent study, in fact, found that people who ate three servings a day had a healthier body weight than those who didn’t eat yogurt at all.

6.    Fruit muesli bars. Besides the fact that you can easily tote these things around, muesli bars are the perfect snack anytime, anywhere. Each whole-grain bar is high in fiber and has only less than 100 calories, and many brands offer different varieties. You can have yours with nuts, honey, cinnamon, or even dried fruit.

7.    Nuts. Don’t let the fact that nuts high on fat scare you. The monounsaturated kind keeps your heart healthy and is filling. And, your body burns calories just to digest all that protein. Keep your daily intake to a quarter of a cup, which costs you just less than 200 calories.

8.    Omelette. Whisk together four egg whites and a yolk with sliced peppers or tomatoes, and cook in a skillet over medium heat. The result would be a healthy, flavorful snack under 150 calories. Most of the protein in eggs is found in the whites, and this plays a big part in boosting your metabolism. Try and see just how feeling it can be as well.

Facts about Allopurinol

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance
Allopurinol is a prescription drug that is recommended for treatment of gout.  Common brand name of allopurinol is Zyloprim although generic versions of this drug are also available.  This drug is formulated to treat gouty arthritis and gouty kidney.  It also aids in lowering down uric acid concentrations in the blood of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Formulation:

Allopurinol comes in several formulations:

Capsules of 100mg
Scored tablets of 100 mg, 300 mg
Injection of 500mg/30 ml vial (although this is now named allopurinol sodium (Aloprim)
The drug must be stored in temperatures 55 F to 77 F

Usage:

How you use allopurinol depends on how your doctor would prescribe you to use it.  Initially, the highest tolerated dose is given when an acute attack of gout is experienced. Special consideration is also given in the presence of tophi.  Tophi (sing. tophus) are an accumulation of uric acid crystals in joints that triggers an inflammatory response.   The medication is taken once every morning with a glass of water after meals.  If the dosage is too strong, the doctor may either reduce the amount or divide the dose in a single day.  Remember to take the drug the same time each day to maintain its therapeutic level.  During the course of the therapy, it is important that you drink 8-10 glasses of water daily.  Taking in less than 8 glasses of water will increase your risk of forming uric acid stones.  The amount of urine you produce should be equal to the amount of water you take in.

If you forgot to take the medication and it is not near the time of the next dose, take the missed dose immediately.  If there is a short window between the time you remembered taking the dose and the time when you have to take the next one, do not take the previous dose.  Never double the amount of medication just to compensate for the missed dose.  Say for example you are scheduled to take the drug 3x a day and you forgot to take it in the morning.  Problem is, it is already noon by the time you remembered the dose.  Do not take a double dose at noon.  Just take your regular dose for the present schedule and disregard the previous one.  As much as possible do not forget to take your medication so that the drug will remain effective and therapeutic.  If you are regularly missing a dose or several of them within the week, consult your doctor for appropriate action.

After drinking the drug, see if you are experiencing some drowsiness.   If you do, do not do anything hazardous such as driving or operating heavy machinery.  Alcohol consumption is severely contraindicated as it decreases the effect of the drug.

Special Considerations:

Always inform your doctor if you have any medical condition aside from gout if you are to take this medication.  Usually, medical conditions that warrant caution in taking allopurinol are:
    Drug allergies
    Kidney disease
    and liver disease
    Congestive heart failure
    Hypertension
    Diabetes
    Undergoing chemotherapy

As it is important to take in large amounts of water, those with kidney problems and congestive heart failure will have problems in this area as they are usually in fluid restriction.  People with the above conditions also take certain medications that can interact adversely with allopurinol.  For example, taking the drug with chlorpropamide will potentiate the action of the oral hypoglycemic agent.

Reduce the intake of Vitamin C to prevent kidney stone formation.

Side Effects

There are several side effects that you have to look out for when you are taking allopurinol:
    Nausea and vomiting
    Epistaxis or nose bleeding
    Renal failure
    Bone marrow depression
    Jaundice
    Hepatomegaly or liver enlargement

Tests must be regularly done to monitor your blood count to see if bone marrow depression is occurring.  If you experience any of the previously stated conditions, call your doctor immediately for appropriate action.

If you have an infection and you are taking in ampicillin, inform your doctor so he would reschedule your medication.  The possibility of allergic reaction is increased in the presence of the drug, making it important to postpone taking allopurinol while undergoing antibiotic therapy.  Once you experience any form of allergic reaction (i.e. rash, itchiness, difficulty of breathing), stop taking the drug altogether and inform your doctor right away.

Pitted Acne Scar

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance
If you've been suffering from moderate to severe acne breakouts for any period of time, you know how unsightly and annoying a pitted acne scar can be.  These scars are deeper in the skin and have left 'dents' and underlying scar tissue.  Of all the types of acne scarring the pitted variety the most challenging to get rid of.  The good news is that while challenging, it's not impossible.

Here are some things you can do to help reduce the appearance of, or remove entirely, those acne scars on your face;

1.  Increase the blood flow to the affected area.  Scars are made up of a thick connective tissue which is scar tissue.  To help encourage your skins natural healing properties you need to keep the oxygen and blood circulation strong and vigorous.  To do that you can use a simple massage of your facial skin.  Not only will this help stimulate your skins own recuperative properties, it feels good too! Just go in circular motions with even pressure around your scarred areas. You can do this twice a day for a few minutes  each time.

2.  Laser treatments can direct a laser into your lower skin layers which will help break up the scar tissues.  This therapy can also increase the growth of elastin and collagen which will help our skin rejuvenate itself more quickly.  Laser therapy can be costly, but most people recommend it as a great way to deal with acne scarring, especially the deep pitted scarring.  You will most likely need several treatments and you can expect some irritation at the site of the procedure.  This method will also help repair any discoloration you may have from your acne.

3. Chemical peels can also help, though generally they're not as effective for the deep scars.  During this treatment your face will have chemicals applied to it that will basically 'burn' off the top layer of skin.  This will eventually remove the damaged skin which will be replaced with new growth that will be free of scarring and imperfections.

4.  Micro-dermabrasion will exfoliate your skin removing the damaged skin and allowing your new growth healthy skin to appear. This isn't a one time procedure and you will need to repeat the process many times to get the desired results.

Of course it's very important that you take good care of your skin all the time.  Make sure you cover up when you're out in the sun. You can wear a hat but you should also use a high numbered SPF sunscreen.  Don't make the mistake of thinking just because it's overcast you  can't get burned... you can.  Also make sure you take care of your skin by providing it, and your whole body, with the proper nutrients and moisture.  Eat right and drink plenty of water.

If you are concerned with clearing your skin and getting rid of the pitted acne scar, you have choices.  Which option you choose is up to you and your preference as well as the time and money involved in each technique.  Just be willing to follow through on whatever solution you choose. Some work better than others, and you may need to try a few things before you find the one that is right for you.  Be patient, and good luck.

The Smartest Things You Can Do for Your Skin

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance
The best way to protect yourself from the effects of the sun such as wrinkles, dark blotches, and skin cancer is to prevent the damage from occurring in the first place. You’ve been hearing sun-safety messages for years now. Magazines have given you constant reminders that aim to encourage you to cover up, as well as warn you about the dangers of unprotected sun exposure. But, a recent study found that despite all the advisories, many adults still don’t safeguard their skin. The younger generations are the worst offenders. Even with so much evidence that any UV exposure damages your skin and can make you age beyond your years, these people still aren’t paying attention. Now, admittedly, slapping on sunblock every day can be tedious. But, it would be less of a challenge if you develop easy, safe-sun habits that become almost automatic.

One drawback to traditional sunscreen is its sometimes sticky, greasy consistency. Plus, it can take a while to dry. These factors make many people less enthusiastic about slathering it on. But now, you can’t really use that goopiness as an excuse. Sunscreens come in pretty novel stick, spray-on, and sheer formulations, so they feel much drier on your skin, yet afford the same protection. Get a few kinds, stock on selections, and keep them with you at all times, so you’re never caught off guard if you spot an outdoor café, or get stuck in traffic with the sun burning through your car window.

More than that, get the ones that cover the broad spectrum. This should tell you that the product protects your skin from the effects of both UVA and UVB rays. The former penetrate the subcutaneous layer of your skin, causing wrinkles. These also trigger melanoma and carcinoma. Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer, the second most widespread form of cancer for relatively young folks. UVB rays, which reach just your dermis, cause sunburns. They are also to blame for many cases of melanoma.

To make it even easier for you, keep SPF-infused moisturizer by your shower. Having it right there in your caddy or medicine cabinet means you can easily put it on after drying off, giving you a base coat sun protection without really having to think about it. Make this a regular, reflexive routine, much like brushing your teeth in the morning.

Cover prime spots first. People tend to forget to put sunscreen on the back of the neck and along the hairline. Other negatively missed areas include the hands, backs of the ears, and soles of the feet. Another trouble area would be your scalp as well. You can’t rub sunscreen into it, nor can you easily check for growths. Wear a hat during the summer, and ask your hairdresser to give your scalp a look when you go in for a cut. Aside from that, do the lips too. You need a lip moisturizer every single time you go outside. The lips can’t be shielded behind clothes or a hat, so a lip balm with SPF 15 is a must.

Acne Scar Reduction

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance
Suffering from moderate to severe acne is bad enough, having to deal with the unsightly aftermath just makes it worse.  If you have suffered from acne and now find yourself with unsightly scars as a reminder, you'll be pleased to know that there are some things that can be done to reverse some of the damage.  There are  acne scar reduction techniques that may be able to help you.

When your skin gets inflamed from a breakout it can result in an infection which can lead to loss of elastin and collagen, and that can lead to skin cell damage. The body will attempt to repair the damaged skin by using a connective tissue to mend the wound.  This connective tissue is the scar.

Of course, prevention is always the best remedy. If you can stop your acne outbreak in it's early stages you'll go a long way to preventing  scarring.  You don't have to wait until pimples are fully formed before you start to treat your outbreak.  Many people believe in this misconception and feel like they need to give the pimple time to grow so that it will expel the toxins itself.

If you follow this belief you are actually more likely to get scars than if you treated the outbreak and prevented the pimples from getting so advanced. If you already have scars your dermatologist can recommend the appropriate treatment options. If at all possible you should see your doctor since acne sufferers may have sensitive skin and may have reactions to some do it yourself acne remedies.

Here is a list of some of the most common techniques used to diminish scars, of course scars will fade on their own over time but if you want to speed up the process these things may help. Your doctor will tell you which is the best option for you based on the severity of the scar and your skin type:

1. Laser therapy.  This technique can help clear up scars by killing bacteria and increase oxygen to the damaged skin.  Lasers can burn away any excess sebum which will reduce the thick texture of the scar and make it less noticeable.

2. Dermabrasion or microdermabrasion are both ways of surgically removing the outer layer of skin by scraping it off.  The remaining skin is the 'new' skin that was underneath and it will be healthy unblemished skin.

3.  Topical creams such as Retin A are used to help improve not only texture issues from scarring but also help reduce discoloration whether your skin has lightened or darkened.  Retin A does have some potentially serious side effects, the most common one is an extreme sensitivity to sunlight.

4.  Chemical skin peel is when chemicals are used to peel away the damaged top layer of skin.  This method will usually take a fairly long recovery period of up to three weeks.

The effectiveness of any of these methods will depend to a large degree on the skin type of the patient as well as the size and severity of the scars.  It's always best to talk to your doctor and find out what they recommend when it comes to  acne scar reduction.  You do have options and you can get rid of or at least lessen  your unsightly acne scars.

Smokers Downfall

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance
It’s so easy to pick up a stick, especially when you’re stressed. The inhaling and puffing can be so relaxing. After a while, though, you hear that smoker’s cough. Things can go downhill from here, and you need to get rid of that habit pronto. There are just too many disadvantages, and the biggest one would be early aging.

Yes, you were a fan of the cancer stick. Whether you were a once-a-day type of smoker, wouldn’t begin your day without having a stick, or even just hung around a chain smoker long enough, smoking significantly increases your risk of lung cancer (amongst several other types of cancer), heart disease, stroke, age-related blindness, peptic ulcer disease, and a new research shows, type 2 diabetes. More alarming would be that women are more susceptible than men to these tobacco-related problems.

The good news is that even if you quit just 24 hours ago, your body would have begun to heal itself. Your blood pressure and pulse would have dropped to normal, the oxygen level in your blood would have increased, the risk of heart decreased, and most importantly, your chances for a longer life upped. Things even get better from here because if you’ve been smoke-free for a year, you’ve already reduced your excess risk of heart disease by half. And after 15 years, your risk becomes that of a non-smoker.

As for lung cancer, five years after quitting smoking, the death rate for an average smoker decreases by almost half, and 10 years later, it is at par to that of non-smokers. That’s why the best time to stop would be now, because while it is possible to completely recuperate from it, it does take a very long time. To accelerate the healing, stock up on antioxidant-rich fruits and veggies, which can encourage cellular repair and ward off cancer-causing free radicals. Even when you haven’t quit yet but are planning to, eating a diet rich in antioxidants is a good idea. Water, milk, fruits, and vegetables worsen the taste of cigarettes, making quitting the habit easier for you.

Finally, make exercise a priority. This not only helps restore lung function by increasing blood flow to your lungs, but is also a great stress-buster. When you’ve gotten addicted to your workout routine, you’re less likely turn to a stick when you’re tense or stressed. Plus, when you do continue to smoke even when you’ve become more active, it’s so much harder to last long. You’ll see that it’s easy to feel tired and breathless. The head rush happens more often because your lungs are weak.

For all you who want to take care of your health as well as your skin, there’s no other way but to stop smoking altogether. Whether you want to do it cold-turkey or gradually, you need to make the decision right now. Soon, you’ll see that your skin is no longer as dry as it once was. Plus, your breath just smells a lot better. Smokers have this smell about them that is just entirely too unpleasant.
