And after 15 years, your risk becomes that of a non-smoker.

As for lung cancer, five years after quitting smoking, the death rate for an average smoker decreases by almost half, and 10 years later, it is at par to that of non-smokers. That’s why the best time to stop would be now, because while it is possible to completely recuperate from it, it does take a very long time. To accelerate the healing, stock up on antioxidant-rich fruits and veggies, which can encourage cellular repair and ward off cancer-causing free radicals. Even when you haven’t quit yet but are planning to, eating a diet rich in antioxidants is a good idea. Water, milk, fruits, and vegetables worsen the taste of cigarettes, making quitting the habit easier for you.

Finally, make exercise a priority. This not only helps restore lung function by increasing blood flow to your lungs, but is also a great stress-buster. When you’ve gotten addicted to your workout routine, you’re less likely turn to a stick when you’re tense or stressed. Plus, when you do continue to smoke even when you’ve become more active, it’s so much harder to last long. You’ll see that it’s easy to feel tired and breathless. The head rush happens more often because your lungs are weak.

For all you who want to take care of your health as well as your skin, there’s no other way but to stop smoking altogether. Whether you want to do it cold-turkey or gradually, you need to make the decision right now. Soon, you’ll see that your skin is no longer as dry as it once was. Plus, your breath just smells a lot better. Smokers have this smell about them that is just entirely too unpleasant.
