One of the most popular breakfast meals in the world is oatmeal. In fact, oatmeal has been around since the ancient times of the Chinese and the Greeks. And it has been included on the daily diet of men since they have learned to eat grains and to cook foods. Unknowingly, man has already been eating one of the most nutritious foods available. Oatmeal contains many nutrients that are good for the health such as the soluble and insoluble dietary fiber. The soluble dietary fiber is needed by those who are suffering from high cholesterol level because it helps in lowering the LDL cholesterol – which is the bad cholesterol found in the body. At the same time, it maintains the HDL cholesterol – good cholesterol the body needs. The insoluble fiber, on the other hand, is very good in keeping the bowels clean. Thus, excreting the bowel will not be painful anymore. Also, the insoluble fibers are good for patients with diabetes because it helps in slowing down the starch digestion which results to the maintenance of the blood sugar level. Aside from the dietary fibers present in oatmeal, oatmeal is also rich in Vitamin B complex, which aids in metabolism and iron and calcium, which helps in bone, muscle and teeth growth. It also contains zinc, which is a very essential enzyme needed in metabolism and proper stabilization of the nucleic acid. In addition, zinc had been linked to wound healing, reproduction and growth of the body. Vitamin E is also present in oats. Vitamin E acts as antioxidants that help in removing free radicals that are harmful for the body. For that reason, it is good in preventing certain cancers and delaying the effects of aging. In addition, Vitamin E also prevents blood clotting which helps in preventing many heart ailments. Moreover, oatmeal is a rich source of carbohydrates which is why many athletes love them. The carbohydrates are good in providing energy which they need. It has thiamine as well which helps in carbohydrate metabolism. Summing up, oatmeal is very good in preventing high cholesterol and other heart ailments as well as controlling the blood sugar and insulin levels. It is good in reducing the blood pressure as well as controlling the bowel movement. Moreover, it’s a good anti-aging and beauty regimen and an anti-cancer supplement. Overall, oatmeal is good in promoting a long and healthy life. But oatmeal has a bland taste. For that reason, better add some fruits like banana and strawberry. You can also add some milk but avoid adding sugar since it may cause problems for diabetics. Now, you can enjoy your oatmeal better. Also, as much as possible avoid choosing those flavored oatmeals that are available in the market since it contains chemicals that are not good to the health because they are already processed. Thus, always prefer the more natural way or the old fashioned oats instead. |
