When we were kids, our parents and doctors have always advised us to eat vegetables. However, most of us haven’t followed that advice since meat products are more delicious and appealing. Some of us didn’t even bother to exert an effort to like and eat vegetables as a daily habit. It’s really disappointing to know that most of us have made the wrong decision for not eating or not including vegetables in our diet.

Vegetables are very abundant and they are easy to plant and harvest even if you have a small backyard. Some vegetables even grow on pots, making growing your own possible, in virtually any setting. And if you grow a few plants of your own there is no excuse for not eating vegetables as you should. But even if you must purchase vegetables, they are cheaper as compared to meat and fish products.  Most of all, vegetables are very healthy and it would be a great help in giving life and to our poor diet.

Vegetables are a good source of antioxidants. These antioxidants are substances that may help in fighting and preventing the cause of different cancers which may infect the body. In addition to that, antioxidants can boost our energy, repair damaged tissues and protect our bodies from other illnesses.

Vegetables are also rich in fiber which is very good to the digestive system. When we have a high level of fiber on our body, the digestive system can function efficiently thus keeping it healthier and better able to work to keep the insides of the digestive system clean. This can help in avoiding constipation and irregularity of bowel movement. In addition, it will help in preventing colon cancer as well as polyps.

Vegetables also contain protein. This means that we can substitute vegetables with protein for meat products and still get plenty of protein. Adding vegetables on our meal diet will ensure that we are getting the essential amino acids for us to be healthy. Brown rice, beans, corn, nuts and spinach will be really good to be added on the diet.

Vegetables have a high level of water content as well which is normally fat free and low in calories. This is very good for those who want to lose weight and to watch their calorie intake. Since vegetables are rich in fiber as well, the combination of the two is a perfect way to fill the tummy and make us feel fuller thus eliminating the frequent snacks in between meals.

Aside from the mentioned above, due to the many nutrients found in vegetables, adding it on our daily meal will reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart illnesses, cardiovascular problems, stroke, kidneys stones , osteoporosis, and certain kinds of cancer. In choosing vegetables, it’s better to chose those that are dark green and orange colored veggies for cancer prevention.

Knowing the many benefits of vegetables, there’s no reason not to include it on our daily diet.
